Mizpah
This little charm arrived in my mail today . . .
it is a James Avery Mizpah charm . . .
when new, this was one-half of a whole set . . .
it is now missing its other half . . .
And Mizpah; for he said,
The LORD watch
between me and thee,
when we are absent
one from another.

Hood's Texas Brigade Descendant
Received this certificate in the mail this week . . . had submitted my application to hoodstexasbrigade.org at the end of last year . . . based on the service of my 2nd great-grandpa, Joseph Helidorah Nettles . . . who was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on this date in 1864 . . . the photo of John Bell Hood on the far left is from one of the books in my personal library, Jackson & Lee, Legends in Gray, featuring the paintings of Mort Kunstler . . .

Mrs. Cardinal - finally!
Finally captured some okay images of Mrs. Cardinal . . . she flew away from her nest when I walked by on the way to the mailbox . . . figured she would be gone by the time I walked back in the house and got the camera . . . but there she was, in the dead althea bush . . . she did her usual evasive moves . . . I kept having to move around to try to get her in focus without a bunch of twigs and stuff in the way . . . that blurry effect is because of all those twigs . . . and it is very windy here today . . . and I was trying to manually focus directly on her . . . and had set the camera on the mode for capturing moving objects . . . FYI . . . clicking on the image will take you to an album with a few more shots of her . . .

Thank you, Mr. Postman
Look what arrived in my mailbox today! . . . I purchased these papers for two reasons . . . for one thing, they are connected to Rockdale, Texas, which is my hometown . . . but the main reason I decided to bid on them was the unique handwriting . . . and the antique papers . . . what wonderful ephemera for scanning and using in digital scrapbooking! . . . if I am reading the dates correctly (some of these are written in French . . . any interpreters out there?), these papers are dated as far back as 1874 . . . which just happens to be the very year Rockdale was founded . . . the Rockdale Centennial cover was not a part of the package . . . that's from a 1974 publication on the history of Rockdale . . .

Evening in Paris
This photo shows the newest additions to my collection of vintage perfume bottles . . . these bottles arrived in the mail yesterday . . . I first started collecting this particular style back in the 1980s . . . when I was doing a lot of counted cross-stitch, tatting, teaching classes at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, et al . . . these were attached as needle-holders to the fabric chatelaines I designed . . .
